I have a Marlin 1894C in .357 coming and want to buy some ammo for it. What would you recommend in factory ammo for practice shooting and for deer hunting (please debate the merits of .357 as a deer cartridge elsewhere). I have heard great things about the Federal American Eagle 158gr SJSP as an accurate practice round. How is the new Wolf Gold SJHP? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

. As far as hunting ammo is concerned, Buffalo bore (Cabelas Sells it) is the hand down winner, the 180gr hard cast gives you the punch for heavier game, than deer. As for one round to do it all, I like Sellier & Bellot in 158gr jsp, I get around Mid 1900's fps out of my 1894c. Also only costs $13 bucks a box. Runs around 2 Inch groups at 100yds (With my aperature sights,and a rest ). But for hunting even though the Buffalo Bore stuff costs $$$ .....$20. for 25 rounds.....It's worth it, after all how many rounds are you going to put down range during a hunting season

180gr buffalo bore, and the 158gr Buffalo bore feed flawlessly in my 2005 vintage 1894c. I tried the 180 gr in a south florida hog(318 lber) a years ago.
DRT, thru and thru, did not recover the round. SOLD ME!!! On deer though I would use 158grs for more energy dump.

You will have to try different loads to see what works in your 94. Mine shoots very well with S&B 158jsp, and with Miwall 160gr Hunting loads. Most hunters use Hornady 158gr XTP for deer. Mine is NOT accurate with the hot 125 gr factory loads. It doesn't feed well with Blazer or any full wadcutter 38. I shoot Lawman 158gr tmj 38 special+p for indoor range practice. Great choice in rifles, you will love this carbine more the longer you own it.
