Disclaimer: This is strictly a theoretical question; I have no need for a rifle in either cartridge, I am not in the market for one, and I don't expect to be.
The .375 H&H Magnum is an outstanding, classic cartridge. The .375 Ruger seems to match the H&H's ballistics in a cartridge without a belt that fits in a standard-length action. Were I thinking of acquiring a .375, I'd be drawn to the modern design of the .375 Ruger. For someone purchasing their first dangerous game rifle, are there practical reasons to prefer the older .375 H&H? I'm thinking primarily of the cartridge itself, not the rifles that shoot it.
