I have what appears to be a model 36 S&W with a 1 1/2 barrel which has a jagged hammer. I am wondering if I would be making a mistake if I just ground down the tip of the hammer until it is a smooth line and a graceful curve. I know this would eliminate my chances of cocking the gun for a shot but I am not interested in cocking the hammer to fire. Does anyone have any helpful advice? Blessings... Cowboy...

I carry a Model 36 and I love its classic look (it should measure 1 7/8"). I have seen examples of "bobbed' hammers and, IMO, it ruins the looks. There are a number of hammerless J-frames available. Perhaps you should consider selling or trading for one of those.

Got pics?
