.38 SPL to .38 Super ACP Revolver Conversion?

Is this possible? Perhaps with moonclips? I just came into a SP101 in .38 Special that doesn't fit into my plans for carry or range shooting and was considering having it "tinkered with" for a 9mm conversion. Then I thought of the old .38 Super ACP round which is dimensionally closer to .38 SPL and performs like 9mm ++

I know Pinnacle will do the conversion to 9mm, and they'll convert other models to .38super. Not sure if they'll do an SP-101 to .38 Super, but you could ask them. http://www.pinnacle-guns.com/index.asp

Best bet for Pinnacle is to call Mark, He does answer Email but slowly, He is very willing to talk to you. You might be able to just send the cylinder.

With a Ruger I'd think that's possible. Ruger's have always been over-engineered.

I just spoke to Mark about this same thing the other day. The Model 360 that Mark converted to 9mm for me will shoot .38 Super and 9x23 because when he does the 9mm conversions he reams the cylinder to 9x23 to avoid extraction problems. He said he has done them for guys who carry their guns loaded with Supers or 9x23 but practice mostly with regular 9mm.

I'm sure your SP101 would be plenty strong enough to handle it.

Now there's a idea . . . both 9mm and .38 super. Cheap practice and a heavy hitting carry round. Sounds like a plan. . . .
