I'm looking for info fo0r reloading the 380 auto. I have 96 gr cast lead bullets, but none of my reloading manuals have any info for that bullet. I usually reload the 95 gr fmj with unique. Thanks.
96 and 95 are so close that there won't be any difference in loading data. Use jacketed bullet data for 95 grain, 4.2gr Unique max Alliants old data and drop 10% for lead. With Unique that should have you start out at around 3.8grs. You can work up a couple 10th's but test each load and don't exceed published 95gr jacketed data.
According to QuickLoad (internal ballistics software) the best you can get is with VihtaVuori (sp?) N330 powder. And the second best powder by a very slim margin is Unique.
So I load 95 grain hard RNL bullets with 4.2 grains of Unique and I don't remember the OAL (I think it's .980"). This is a max load. You might want to start at 3.8. I still need to work up a load for 102 grain Remington "Golden Somethings"
For a practice load that doesn't sting my hand so much, I use 3.0 grains of International.
I've got the 49th Lyman Edition. there nothing in it for 95 or 96 gr lead bullets. Also several other manuals. Nothing. Thats why I asked the question.
