I've been running my Lee turret with just one plastic index ratchet installed, I'm on my second ratchet after about 5,000 rounds. On the Midway USA site, under user reviews for the ratchet, one user lauds the use of two ratchets and claims that using just one reduces turret index quality and shortens the life of the solo ratchet.

What say thee?

I didn't know you could use more than one at a time. I have been loading on my classic turret four years and thousands of rounds and am still on the original that came installed. Don't short stroke the press and make sure you raise the ram before you turn the turret by hand and the ratchet should last a long time.

Yeah, I think that second one is a spare, I doubt you could get two of them in that clamp thingie. And Rusty's right, never try to turn the turret by hand when the ram is all the way down, or it'll ruin that little square plastic doodad quickly. If you raise the ram about halfway, then you can turn the turret by hand safely.

I tore up the first plastic index ratchet after a couple thousand rounds. I wasn't running the ratchet up to the straight portion of the index rod while rotating the turret by hand. I had the spare which Lee doesn't bother to tell you about and was thankful I didn't throw it away. Since replacing it I've loaded probably 5 thousand rounds and everything is still working fine. If your Midway order is falling just a wee bit short of the $25, add one or two of of the ratchets to get you there. That way you'll always have a spare or two. There's few things worse than needing a part and not having it, especially when it costs around 99 cents.
