.40 / 10mm

I finally got around to buying a .40, a Beretta Storm PX4. I bought my 10mm dies before the .40 came out so there is no mention of the .40 on the box.

Does anyone know if the 10 can be adjusted to load the .40 or do I need another set of dies?

X: I'd give them a try. I take it you'll be priming with a seperate tool. Sizing should be fine and I would think the expander could be lowered enough for the .40 case, same for bullet seating. I think the biggest test will come down to taper crimping.

I believe so, though someone who knows better will be along to correct me if I am wrong. I have the RCBS 10mm die set and it's marked as being for both 10mm and .40S&W. A quick glance at MidwayUSA shows that the Hornady, Lee, & Lyman 10mm dies are also for .40S&W, as are at least a couple of the Redding die sets. If nothing else you could call the manufacturer of your dies.

Yes Xtarheel, You can use them, the only difference in 10mm and .40S&W is the fact that the .40 is shorter and uses small pistol primers instead of large pistol primers. I load both with mine, and shoot them out of same gun!! It's a S&W 610 realgun I mean wheelgun! God Bless Mac

Thanks for the info. My 10mm is a Ruger convertable, 10mm / .38-40. I bought it years ago to go along with my Model 92 SRC in .38-40

Most die sets are for .40 & 10MM. Redding sells 3 sets. One for just .40, one for just 10MM, and also a set for .40 & 10MM together.

They probably will work and at the most you may have to buy a crimping die and they are fairly inexpensive.

The .40 is just a neutered 10mm. My Dillon dies are marked 40/10

Make sure that your 10mm size die sizes your .40 brass down enough for proper bullet tension in the case. Some .40 brass is slightly thinner than others and your 40 bullets may not be tight enough in the case. I had this problem with my combo 40/10mm die and the manufacturer sent another size die for .40 brass. I could push the bullets deeper into the case with thumb pressure before which would be a safety hazard.
