Went on then Alliant powder sight looking for data loading the 165 gr. platted bullets. The only info they listed was for Speer gold dot hollow point at 5.8 grs. That seems hot for lead or platted. Need help. Loading 40 cal S&W.

2004 Alliant load data has Bullseye loads for 180 gr lead bullet you can reference for 165 gr plated bullet and lists 4.5 gr as max charge at 1.125" OAL - http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=182147&d=1364769070

I normally do not recommend faster burn rate powder than W231/HP-38 for 40S&W (with the exception of Green Dot) due to very snappy recoil but Bullseye downloads well so you can try starting at 4.0 gr and working DOWN incrementally until you get loads that reliably cycle the slide and still produce accuracy.
