My reloading books don't have a lot of data on 135 grain plated bullets. Any helpful information is appreciated. I've got Unique and Bullseye powder for the 135 grain Rainier bullets in 40 S&W. These will be shot in a Glock 27. If you have data on min and maximum loading that would be great.

Never mind,

I don't load anything that light for a 40. Alliant has no recipe for a 135.

From http://www.reloadammo.com/40loads.htm

Loads for .40 S&W special: ( .400 dia. bullet)(case length .850") Shorter version of the 10mm and they are NOT interchangable.
(Note: These are near maximum loads, you should use 10% less to start.)

135 grain JHP or JSP (Jacketed Hollow or Soft Point)
Bullseye 7.6 gr. 1,350 FPS
Unique 8.5 gr. 1,290
Universal 7.5 gr. 1,324
Clays 4.5 gr. 1,071
No. 2 7.6 gr. 1,247
No. 5 9.3 gr. 1,266

I'd be VERY reluctant to use this data! Several of these loads are major power factor loads. The Bullseye and Universal loads are way over major. Major PF is 165, these loads are making a 180+ power factor. I wouldn't shoot them in any of my guns. Go to Alliant's site for load data for Bullseye and Unique. These loads are way too high pressure!

Your bullets should be loaded using cast bullet data, but this load recipe won't get you into serious trouble. I'd start at the minimum. This is data from a reliable source.
40 S&W Load Data 135 gr bullet and Bullseye powder
Bullseye Powder, 40 S&W, 135 gr bullet:
Starting load = 5.4 Bullseye @ 981 fps
med load = 5.9 Bullseye @ 1071 fps
Max load (do not exceed) = 6.4 Bullseye @ 1160 fps

Data from Nosler fifth edition reloading manual

Walkalong, not sure what you are backing 15% off from. There was no load stated in your post. But thanks anyway.

Shooter, thank you for the load data. Your closing powder charges appear to be in the ballpark loads I was considering.

Well, the poster deleted the data, which is just as well, as it was too hot for the Ranier.

Robert, I'm sure you know, but for the benefit of others who might be considering the site referenced as a valid source for reloading data:
The only reliable sources for safe loading data are published manuals and online manuals by powder, bullet, and reloading equipment manufacturer's. Data from any other source should be considered suspect, and should be verified with one or more of the above sources.

Shooter1, yes exactly. I do cross reference my data. I'm having so much trouble finding 135 grain load data as the only published source I have is Nosler. Thanks for the precaution or heads-up.

Let's just say I don't like being bashed for info I found out there. I stated that this is what I found out there with the the warning on the load.
