I was able to get some 40 bullets. I see Alliant max load is 9gr of PP with 155gr Gold Dot, Nosler data is not supporting PP, and Lyman book shows 8gr max load. 1gr is quite a bit of difference for auto pistol. What are ya'll running?

I also have Unique to use.

Alliant's 40SW data for Unique is stout, to say the least. As someone who has jumped right in at a max load (pistol) many times, I still haven't worked up to what Alliant thinks is a good 40SW Unique load.

Edit: oops. Apparently, I can't tell the difference between power pistol and Unique, lol.

I've got both but I haven't really messed with Unique and 155gr (essentially same as 150gr), I have used some Power Pistol.

From my G23 (4" barrel), 9.0gr Power Pistol, 155gr Gold Dot @ 1.120" averages right around 1,250 fps. Very consistent load too.

You dont want to push these really super fast. I have done some testing with these with wet news print, and they will open up really big when pushed hard. They will lose more weight the faster they go, and actually penatrate less. I tested the media first with a golden sabre to compare. I still have the mushroomed bullets and can get you some pictures if your interested.

I would second that. Although I don't have any 150gr Nolser JHPs I do have quite a few 135gr and 200gr Nosler hollow points. They really aren't built to handle a lot of velocity. Yes they will open up, but too soon IMHO.

Here's a picture of a 200gr Nosler JHP (on the left) fired from a .40 with a muzzle velocity of approx. 1,100 fps compared to a 200gr XTP (right) fired from a 6" .40 with a muzzle velocity of approx. 1225-1250 fps. The XTP holds up much better.

So think of a 150gr which is the same design, just shorter because it's lighter weight. But, if fragmentation is what you want, I couldn't think of a better bullet.
