I am requesting comments from experienced users of the .40SW round in a 1911 pistol. I am a fan of the .40SW and shoot it in a S&W M&P, a Glock 23,
a S&W 646 Revolver, a Para-Ord LDA 1640, and a Browning Hi-Power.

I would like a 1911 in .40SW; however, had a bad experience with a Colt MKIV, Series 80. Beautiful gun, just wouldn't feed a complete magazine without multiple FTF. Back to Colt, say said they fixed it and sent me two new Colt mags. NO improvement at all. Tried Wilson Combat mags and they worked a bit better but still not 100% reliable. Got rid of it.

However (there is always a 'however') I still lust for a 1911 in .40SW as the 1911 is my favorite pistol. I have been eyeing the STI Ranger II in .40SW. I would appreciate all candid comments from anyone with experience with a 1911 in .40SW, and inn particular comments on the STI pistols.

Thanks for reading this. Keep shootin'

STI makes very good pistols. I have two Ranger IIs, one in .45 and one in 9mm. Both are very good shooters and very reliable. I posted a review on mine here a while back. I also have an STI Shadow I carry daily and an Escort. I have no hesitation in recommending STI.

As I understand your OP, you are asking about the cartridge feed in the 1911 platform.

I don't own one, but have shot several that belong to friends who load the .40 in a 1911 to make Major Power levels with the least recoil. I wasn't willing to go to the trouble to make it work to go that route.

To insure reliable function of the .40 in the 1911, everyone I know loads them long...to the point where it won't reliably feed in other .40 platforms. If you are willing to reload to a separate OAL just to feed through the 1911, they can be very reliable
