I know JHP's have expansion and JFP's have penetration. I've heard that JFP's are designed for carbines and JHP's are designed for revolvers. I must admit I've picked up some 240gr JFP's because I couldn't find JHP's. I have yet to pick up a carbine and only have revolvers.

Given this information, what would you use a JFP for that you wouldn't use a JHP for? Bear? Pigs? Man-bear-pig?

JFPs are good for big animals like bear and pigs.

JHPs would be good for deer and smaller game. 2legged critters too.

Either style will shoot well through a revolver or carbine. I use both in my lever action Marlin 1894 and revolvers.

Anything you use a 240gr JHP on will have a similar effect if 240gr JFP's are used instead, after all it is a .44mag.
But yeah the JFP's will give a little more penetration.
