Hard to say. I started with the .44 mag. I have several revolvers in .44, and have taken a few deer with them. But that didn't stop my hankerin' for a .45 Colt, too. Only have one, and have yet to hunt with it, but glad to have it in the fold.

I'm considering a revolver as well. I was thinking something like the Taurus judge. How would the .410 rounds do in a revolver at close range on hogs vs the .45 LC and the .44 mag????

The .44 has been confirmed to take down elephants in africa . Ive never shot a .460 mag highest ive shot is .475 linebaugh.
In actuality, my 8 3/8 460XVR kicks less than my 629 Mountain Revolver with 280 grain loads. One of the deer I shot with my 1978 629 6", scoped was a measured 187 yards, with a 300 gain XTP hollow point that didn't stop. The exit hole and the heart didn't show evidence of any expansion.

I use a Ruger 77/44 bolt action rifle and a ruger super Blackhawk lipsey edition for hunting. Both are 44 mag. I don't think the recoil is that bad. I can shoot my SBH all day with no problems. I do reload my own and I keep them in the middle. Shooting 200gr and 240gr.
