I need some help ! I have a difficult time understanding trajectory mumbo jumbo. Can anyone give me (from practical experience) some info on 44 mag 240 gr Win. softpoint trajectory? I have my Henry Big Boy zeroed at 75 yds. Where will it hit at say 25, 50, 100, 125 and 150 yds? Don't have enough ammo left to experiment and hunt too! Don't want to shoot if I can't hit what I'm aiming at!

Near line of sight from muzzle to 75 yards.
0.5" high at 50
0 at 75
1.5" low at 100
4.25" low at 125
8.2" low at 150
14" low at 175
21" low at 200

In my experience, shooting the same ammunition through a Browning 92 20" barrel, it's a low hold at up to 35 yds then bullseye holds at 50, 75, 100 and 110 yds ringing barnyard steels offhand, holding *slightly* higher on the 100 and 110 distances. Certainly a lot of fun. Love that round out of a rifle!

Check the website
http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmtraj_simp-5.1.cgi

If that doesn't work, try www.jbmballistics.com and then click on 'simplified trajectory'.

It will tell you how far it will shoot and how much drop at various ranges. It will also tell the maximum 'zero' range for the longest trajectory available. You do have to enter information, which the website is very good about explaining.

Or, you can go to an outdoor range and shoot up a whole lot of ammo determining all this experimentally.

You still need to check up on what the ballistic calculator says as each gun is different. As you can see in a previous post there is a very large and fast drop in this round at the over 100 yard distances. Misjudging your range by 25 yards could easily cause a miss or worse a wounded animal you don't recover.

44 magnum is a great round from a rifle, close in, but it drops a LOT further out. I have mine zeroed at 100, and I aim center mass closer in, but if you're thinking of shooting past 150, and want to stay in a lever gun, the 30-30 is better at a distance.
