I'm off to the woods tomorrow with my wifes Super Blackhawk. My hunting load:

Primer: CCI 350 LP Mag
Powder: H 110 Wt: 23.7
Bullet: 240 Gr. XTP
Speed clocked: 1,340 fps avg.
(not a fun plinking load)

The gun is stock with the exception:

Hogue Grips -rubber
Wolf Springs & a bit of stone work
in the trigger area.

I've got it "dialed in" at 50 yards but do not plan to shoot beyond
35 yds. I will be hunting out of a solid platform stand (6" x 6" x 14' base legs)
w/a full set of guard rails all the way around...I expect to be able to make a steady shot.

It's supposd to be cool here in MO tomorrow morning (27 degrees) so just maybe an old buck will swing thru looking for friendship.

Handgun hunting is a hoot! I love it! Your gun/load is certainly up to the challenge and your choice of a stable shooting position is a really good deal. Best wishes for a clean kill on a good 'un!

critter & snubby,

Thanks guys....
I've got a T/C Contender in 7-30 Waters that will paste dime groups all day long at 100 yrds...I've shot two deer with that gun. But I think this will be more fun. It's up-close and personal and less like a rifle.

I consider this will be my first real handgun deer hunt.

I have a pair of Pro-Ears electronic muffs I intend to use (bought them so I could safely shoot the T/C). As cool as it is, those muffs will do more than help me hear and protect my ears!

I'll be sure to report in if I whack one.

I plan to have my 25-06 for any long shots...if 'ol Mossy Horn walks into view out of range for the Ruger, I'll still be in the ballgame!
