Yeah, I know use the search key!
Here's my latest question: I'm looking for a moderate .44 Magnum recipe. I have a Ruger Super Red Hawk. The other day, using 240 jacketed bullet and 13.5 grain of Power Pistol, I created 40 rounds of harsh bullets. For the first time, my hand was killing me, the recoil was way to much. A few weeks ago, using (if I remember correctly) 10 grains of Unique and the same bullet, I created some overly calm rounds. I'm looking for something in the middle. Something with some power but that's not going to tear my hand up.
Any suggestions, using this bullet?

That overly calm load you mentioned -- 10gr Unique -- is my standard load, and I got my best ever whitetail buck with it this year.

No need to hurt yourself unless you want to.

:D

Mild loads

A 240 JHP at about .44 spl velocities: 6-1/2 grs. of Unique .... about 750 fps.

A 240 JHP with 8 grs giving about 950 fps .

A 300 gr. Lead bullet with 7.5 grs. at about 975 fps.

A 300 gr JHP with 8.5 grs. at about 975 fps. ( it takes 1 extra gr. of powder to push the copper jacket at the same speed.)

This is using .44 mag. brass in all loads and a NON magnum
primer and Unique Powder

I use 8.9 grains of Unique under a 245 grain home cast bullet. This load is for my tin-can and paper punching and bowling pin shooting. Velocity has been in the 1,025 fps range the couple of times I ran it over a chronograph.

I know a couple of guys who are using 8.0 grains under a commercially cast 240 SWC for bowling pins.
