I purchased a well cared for pre-lock 442-1, built in 2001 from a gunsmith who changed his CCW to a 340 scandium. It's had an action job, red ramp front sight installed and cylinders chamfered. Trigger is terrific, something I never thought I'd say about a J-frame. :p

The barrel doesn't read +P, but I thought the -1 guns were OK for +P ammo?

Did the cylinder release latch change at some point on these? This one has the smaller angled one, or were they all that way?

The 442 was originally a matte blue so maybe they did change when they went to the lock. The -1 is made on the J-Magnum frame so it is +P rated.

-1s are +p rated....the barrel is usually marked as such but my 442 was shaving lead and it went back to the factory for a new barrel...it came back with one not marked +p.....that one might of had a new barrel on it...

I must have been looking at it in some funny light - it looked blued, but the gun is truly a flat black like the new ones I've seen.

Glad to know +P is okay, have to see how it shoots with +P versus standard pressure .38's as I'm still working on selecting a carry ammo.

Thanks for the replies.
