Depending on what bullets you are using, you may also want to get a roll crimp.
I prefer roll crimps for revolver cartridges so use one for the AR.
I plan to start loading 45 Auto Rim for my Model 22-4. Found Starline brass, Lyman 452423 mold, correct top punch and seat screw (424), and have Lyman ACP dies. What should I use for a roll crimp die?

I use a Hornady seating/crimping die for .45ACP with the AutoRim. If you turn it down a little from a hard taper crimp it will roll the rim just enough for a grooved bullet. The Lee FCD works pretty much the same.

Thank you. I do have a Lee .45 Colt-A4 die that I shortened slightly to use as a crimp-only die for .45 Schofield. Might I shorten it further to use for Auto Rim?

Is that style case still manufactured? I thought they were gone a long time ago?

This says balloon head lasted until the 1960's.

You don't want balloon head. Lets say the case adheres to the chamber during combustion. That is dry chamber, dry case, good adhesion between the two. And the case is driven flat against the cylinder by the blow of the firing pin. Well something has to give, the case sidewalls have to stretch once internal pressures get high enough to stretch the brass and force the case head on the recoil shield. And that is when a balloon head ruptures between the rim and primer cup, or just above the rim.

I have pulled the case heads off 45LC balloon head pulling them out of a sizing die. You don't want balloon head. Might have been appropriate with black powder, not appropriate in today's world, black powder or smokeless.

Cases are simply gas seals. They have to be supported by the chamber.

Glocks went through a period where they became famous for blowing case heads.

it is easy to see with this case, what is going to happen if that seam is not surrounded by steel.

And I was delighted to see it in stock! I found the mold and 14A shellholder at my favorite obscura store, ebay. Now, I suppose my dwindling stash of Unique will require a switch to W231 for this caliber?

Yeah, I've had to come up with substitutions for several favorite loads. 231 is a fine powder, of course - but I'm still hoping to stock up again on Unique some day...
