I have a 454 cassul and am looking for a high quality 45 long colt round. I live in the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming. I go to the mountains in the West and it's Grizzleys and Moose. I go to the Mountains in the East and it's Black Bears and Moose, not to mention cats in both places. I have Buffalo Bore 360 grain 454 1425 f.p.s and 1623 ft lbs for Grizzley country. All I have seen in 45 lc here is the Winchester cowboy loads with a whopping 750 f.p.s and 312 ft lbs. Are there any hot loads out there in 45 lc that would stand up to the critters? I wanted to get the Buffalo Bore in 45 lc but the Cabela's website didn't have my model (Taurus Raging Bull) on the safe to shoot list. Is this because it's a 454 that just happens to shoot the 45 lc too?

The double tap site acutally had some pretty good prices thanks.
I was looking for the 45 lc for if my wife ever carried it. I know she couldn't handle the 454. It felt like somebody punched me square in the hand the first time I shot it. Needless to say I don't go plinking with it.

I love to plink with my 454, if I cant something small at many distances/stances how am I supposed to hit something important such as a bears vitals?

As others have said, any gun built for .454 Casull will take +p .45 Colt. I'd check out that Doubletap 255 grain load. It'll be easier to control than the .454's, but a heavy semi wadcutter at 1400 fps is still a lot of punch.
