.45 LC BP loads

Just wondering how safe these are to shoot in a cheap gun. I picked up a really cheap derringer, with the sole intention of using .410 shells to kill snakes in the field, but found some .45 LC Black Dawge for dirt cheap, and was wondering if they are really low power enough to be safe and pleasant.
