hello everyone. I think the title is a little self explanitory, but im looking at a rossi/taurus Circuit Judge. it is a Judge with an 18 inch barrel and a stock and was wondering if it would work with hogs in south texas. if you do have experience with the gun do you know if it can take hot loads? all input will be greatly appreicated.

I hunt hogs in central Texas with a .45 colt Blackhawk for backup. loaded with +P like Buffalo Bore, Corbon, Grizzly etc. I take some really big hogs with a 7 1/2" barrel, you should do even better at longer ranges cause I aint afraid to shoot at 40-50 yards.

by the way I like 300 grain plus cast bulletts for best results but also shoot 260 grain for deer, and even larger than 300 grain for the big boys.

NO hot loads in the Taurus. If you want a hog gun get a lever action, it will be more accurate than a .45 slug rattling down a long chamber. Any of the rifles that are also chambered in .44 Mag can take 25k .45 Colt loads. (Winchester, Marlin, Puma, etc.)

I like 255 to 300 grain bullets for deer, should work for hogs as well.

I'd be willing to venture, any heavy (250g and above) cast lead bullet, pushed to 1100-1200 fps-which is very easy to do in a carbine-will penetrate completely inside of 100-125 yds. I really like the RCBS-45-270 using Unique. I don't have a carbine in .45colt, but do have one in .44mag. It'll get it done.

For those who don't own one, a carbine in 44 Mag or 45 Colt will, with proper ammo, deliver close range, game-anchoring performance that will amaze you.

didnt evr have a use for one, but now, would love to have a Ruger .44 deerfield I believe they were called. beautiful rifle, would love one for up close hogs.
