conversions. The article about the ROA being fired with Corbon's 200 gr. JHPs inspired me to look for another suitable brand to use. I found........BUFFALO BORE. Be careful though, they list 4 loadings for their .45 LCs. Three of them have velocities that clock 1350-1400 fps, which is too exteme for cap and ball conversions, even Rugers They have ONE though, a 255 gr. Keith gas check that produces just over 1000 fps, which means about 570 fpe of energy.

Not to be used for Colts or Remmies though. This one is exclusively for Rugers. Nice for those who want a little more beefed up performance than the mildly loaded cowboy loads.

Do keep in mind that the Ruger Old Army is not proofed for anything other than blackpowder cap-and-ball loads, and the conversion cylinders for the ROA are only proofed for standard .45 Colt loads. Shooting +P loads in a converted ROA it is not a good idea. It may well work (at least at first), but you are way outside the design if you shoot hot-rod +P loads in it. Your first indication of trouble might be a stretched frame. (or worse)

The old advice holds true with these things: "Can" is not the same as "should".

Now if you can get your combination professionally proofed, it might be another story.

Or, try going for max effect with Blackpowder. If you use a drop tube to sift a maximum load of FFFg Goex into the cases, compress it firmly, and seat a soft 20:1 alloy or pure lead 250gr round-nose flat-point lubed with SPG over the charge, you have a real thumper, and you are unlikely to wear out a ROA with these even after thousands of rounds.

They are a real hoot to shoot, too.
