I found a bunch of Starline nickel plated 45 Super brass at my gun club. I had never heard of it so I looked up the difference between it and regular 45 ACP and found its thicker brass that can be loaded to higher pressure than regular 45 ACP. I just want to use it for my regular loads of 6.4 gr. of CFE pistol. Is there any reason not to use it for that purpose?

No.

I would test the first few. I think the Super has a bit less case capacity as it is thicker in the web, so your load may be a bit hotter due to that. I would expect it to be fine, or you may want to back it down a little to keep them on par with the standard cases.

Or, to keep things simple sell them to someone who is into Super as they are worth a bit more than standard brass. It is an interesting round but never really caught on.

Or, you could change springs in what you have and load them as Super.

I shoot 45 super in a Springfield 1911 V-16 Longslide. I also use Starline 45 super brass you will have no issues using it for 45 auto, it is tough brass and has to be 45 super is a hot load. Do Not try shooting 45 Super loads in 45 auto I had a friend who did not listen and got wacked in the forehead by the slide he was lucky and only required a few stitches.

Same gun and brass for me, too. Love my V-16, the 6” long slide 1911 is a bit of a conversation starter at the range.

You are correct people are not at all familiar with the V-16’s they are great guns I wish Springfield would do another run of them, did yours come with both springs so you can shoot 45 acp also?

Thanks for the replies. I’ll load a few and chronograph them. I’d like to use the same load so I don’t have two different ACP loads. I was surprised to find so many Starline cases left behind.

If there's significant quantity, you could probably trade the Super brass for regular .45 brass at a 2:1 rate.

No, just one. Funny thing is it has never hiccuped with any standard or +P .45 ACP ammo I have fed it.

Stay safe.

I've got around 100 cases, but the easiest thing to do is just use them as regular 45 brass.

45 Super* is the same externally as the 45 Auto, but has a thicker web, denser grain structure in the metal, and special heat treat process that enhances the durability of the case. Similar internal capacity as the 45 Auto. Some 45 Super load data was published by Triton Cartridge before they went out of business. *Loads to be shot ONLY in guns modified professionally to handle extreme pressures of this cartridge. DO NOT SHOOT IN STANDARD 45 AUTO!
