45ACP Accuracy w/185g & 230g Hornady

I'm not sure I'm a good enough shot to be able to determine this (I've tried).
Would you expect the accuracy of a 185g HP-XTP @ 900fps to be better than say a 230g HP-XTC @ 700fps, and if so, why. I can't seem to get my head wrapped around this. Any input appreciated. These would be shot from my Kimber Ultra CDPII 3" at 12-15 yards. I know you guys can set me straight!

Theoretically the 230 gr. "SHOULD" be most accurate due to increased bearing surface.
In reality at handgun ranges it will most likely vary from one gun to another.

Your milage may vary.

But back in my day, 230 FMJ-RN match ammo was shot in .45 class NRA Bullseye.

185 or 200 grain wad-cutter was shot in Certerfire class.

And .22 RF was shot in .22 class.

The scores went up slightly as the bullets weight & caliber went down.

I doubt you would have seen any positive differance if the 185-200's centerfires were driven to 900 FPS, as recoil & blast would have been worse then the 230 GI hardball .45 match load.
