I got some 220gr. lead cast bullets the other day but my load data book dostnt give info for that grain. The powder i plan to use is 700x. Dose any know of a good load for it? thanks for any comments.

Use data for 230 gr. lead bullets from your reloading manual. Begin at starting loads and work up if necessary...

Hodgdon lists 4.5-5 grains for a 230 grain cast lead bullet. 700X is an excellent powder for cast bullets.

I use this method any time there is no published data for a specific weight. Just pick the next closest bullet that weights MORE (usually withing 5-10 grains) and start slightly above the minimum data for the heavier bullet.

Lyman 49th reflects a 225 grain cast lead using 700X between 4.0 and 5.0 grains of powder. Anywhere in there should a safe load, starting low and working up. I also agree with post #2 using 230 grain bullet data. Start low and work up.

Start low and work up.

FYI, "start low and work up" means start at the low end of the published data and work up from there.

While 700-X is forgiving in this regards, some powders do not play well when loaded below the published minimums.

It is best to stay in the range of the published, and tested, information.

Be careful, low weight charges 4.4 or under throw very erratically in my lee auto disk. It throws .5gr charges about 10% of the time. 4.5 and above is fine but does throw +/-.2gr. Like others said, just use 230gr lead data.

Just a FYI.

All Lyman cast bullet weights are shown 'As Cast' weight.

That does not include the weight of the bullet lube in the grease groves.

So, a 225 grain .45 bullet, 'As cast' would be very close to a 230 grain bullet weight when Sized & Lubed.
