Setting up my 550 for 45 colt , when setting the expander/powder drop die it only threads into the tool head half way when set to put a slight bell in the case is this normal?
The dies I have are for 45 colt or 45 acp
Thanks in advance

There is quiet a bit of difference in length between a 45 Colt and 45acp. I haven't seen a die that is for both but, If you have such a die it makes sense that it would have to be "way up" in the die plate for the .45 Colt.

I have different dies for both calibers and I load on a 550. The .45 Colt die is taller, but as long as yours works, why worry about it?

Give Dillon a call, I would think that the powder funnel would be different for 45 Colt and 45ACP, maybe not, but I would check. But than again, if you have it working ?

Never heard of a 45 Colt/45 acp die set.

Something seems wrong there.
Not that I know everything mind you, I just like to think I do. :scrutiny:

And yes, the FCD is different for each caliber.
45ACP is a taper crimp die & 45 Colt is a roll crimp die.

Powder funnel for both is letter E (13782)

Powder funnel for .45 Colt and .45 ACP

The powder funnel for the two is the same part number,
listed as funnel "E", Dillon part number 13782. The shellplate and
locator buttons are different parts.
