5.45's picky about bullet type?

I've got a new Tantal and it's not feeding soft point ammo reliably. Should I stick to FMJ?

The ammo is 55 gr Barnaul SP.

Could this also be a magazine issue? One mag fed the ammo fine, and the next one would fire the one in the chamber (that I fed in via the bolt) but not feed the next round, mushrooming the SP.

Or are Tantals finnicky about bullet type?

Are you sure you've got the correct magazines for the rifle? Initially 5.45x39 mags were often passed off as .223 mags when the .223 AKs first became somewhat common (and rarely worked well with .223 ammo), now the .223 plastic mags are much easier to find than are the real 5.45x39 magazines so I'd be surprised for the reverse to happen.

If one mags works and the other doesn't, look at what's different in the fit and feed lips of the two mags.

OTOH if FMJ works in both mags, why not just stick to FMJ?

If one works fine, and one doesn't, use the one that works and see if your problems cease.

These are 5.45 Polish mags from APEX. I only tried 2 of the 8 mags, so I need to load all of them and give them a try.

I'm thinking maybe I just got a bad magazine.

In the meantime, my next ammo order will be FMJ. :)
