One gun not mentioned is the Sharps. It killed all of the buffalo that the Indians depended on for food and shelter thus starving them onto reservations. There were a few squabbles between them and the U.S Army, but facing starvation had a bigger effect. That allowed the settlers to take over the land.
That's what happened to George Armstrong Custer ---a "squabble." Right. :what::scrutiny:........:D

Although not as popular as the Sharps, the Remington Rolling Block in .45 100-110-120 did it's fair share. During that era they were all BP cartridge rifles.

I liked the RR for its simplicity. I even built one 25 years ago from a #5 RR that was originally chambered in 7mm Mauser (7x57) and was shipped to Uruguay in 1902. I chambered it for .45-100-110-120. The .45-120 case is 3 and 1/4 inches long and was not fun to load or reload, but it shot very well. I tired of it and sold it for a pittance.

There is a 1/2 hour show tomorrow on the Sportsman Channel (Directv channel 604) on the rolling block (Gun Stories).

Yup, Me and Itchy was camped thar on the Greasy Grass when Sittin' Bull and Custer had that fracas.. I almost went over to complain about the noise.;):D

Just kidding.
Custer and his detachment were wiped out by the Sioux in Battle of the Little Big Horn. Indians called the LBH the Greasy Grass river.:) Custer's troops had slaughtered a village in the "Battle" of Washita. The Indians got even at the the Little Big Horn. The 7th exacted revenge at the Wounded Knee Massacre.

It was a nasty business for sure.
