500SW Magnum Lever Gun?

I see on Hornady's site they are loading the 500SW Magnum with a 300g Evolution polytip bullet. What is this about? Sounds like there is a new lever gun coming out. They're listing is as 2075fps out of a 10"bbl. Might be pretty interesting out of an 18-20"bbl! Have to wait and see I suppose.

Out of a rifle length barrel you can expect to pick up about 300fps. At least my Handi Rifle does.



Of course that was before i had the barrel chopped to 16.25

I too have seen WWG's entry. Not exactly what I'd calle mainstream. I have a hard time believing that Hornady would go to the time and expense of developing this new bullet just for a semi-custom $2,000 rifle built one at a time in Alaska. What I find most interesting is that the 500SW runs around 60K chamber pressure. If Marlin has a factory gun coming that will handle this, I wonder what else they'll be able to chamber it for? Puma's lever gun can already handle this pressure, wonder if they are the one's that will be chambering the 500.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I wonder if they are targeting a new lever gun OR if they are just trying to let people run the 500 S&W up to .460 speeds via the pointed bullets?

If someone would come out with a reasonable priced 500 S&W lever gun I'd line up to buy one.
