I have bought and reloaded several 53gr. v-max bullets. To date I have yet to be happy with the difference in bullet size and weight. I am not all that picky about the above stated, however when you get .015 spread in oal it troubles me. I have contacted Hornady and they blame it on my die. I use a redding custom competition micro adjust seating die. all brass is full length sized and trimmed. I disregard their statement because all other bullets seat out within a half thou. The bullets i have used have all been from different lots and still no change. Have anybody had good luck with these in 223 rem?

I'm surprised that you're experiencing that much variance in bullet profile with the V-Max.
They usually are very accurate in many different rifles and calibers. You have to realize that they are turned out by the millions and they must adhere to a QC tolerance.

Instead of worrying about the difference, pick a COAL and try a couple 5 shot groups and make a determination if they are performing or not.

The only other recommendation that I will make is to try the 52gr A-Max match bullet. I use them myself in my 22-250.
In my 223 Contender pistol I use the 52gr Nosler Custom Competition, they are also a superb bullet.

I've shot several hundred of these bullets in my .223, I've never had any complaints. Not to steal your thread, but I've also had very good luck with Hornady 52 gr. BTHP's in my .223, .315 MOA last time at the range. Possibly the last bunch of bullets, or batch, was a tad off, I certainly wouldn't give up on them though!

Hornady make a mistake? No way. I have never knowen them to take blame for anything. However they have always made things square. They have never offered any extra to cover time or aggravation tho.

I love there V-MAX bullets tho & price is there.
