For the people loading for 6.5 cals, where are you sourcing bullets in bulk??

I am finding boxes of 50 or 100, but, I would like to get 500 or 1000.

Another question:

What company makes the best LOWER cost bullets.??

Thanks

I typically buy from RMR in bulk...Powder Valley has Bergers in stock at 500 round packs right now as well. You can order from Sportsmans and do in store pickup- I did that for Hornady 50gr Vmax last week.

I have not found a low cost bulk 6.5 bullet. Its something I think would have a high enough demand but I have yet to see a company step up.

Closest thing is the Speer 90gr TNT. They are occasionally available as 500 pack by MidSouth Shootersupply. ~$17/100 for pack of 500rds.

Most manufacturers will offer bulk bullets for sale, but 500-1000 does not qualify as “bulk.”

That's one of the cheapest I've heard of for 6.5 bullets unfortunately I don't think you'd want to shoot that out of Creedmoor or in my case a 6.5 x55 Swedish Mauser. Something at least 110 to 140 grains would be nice

They are out of stock right now in 1000 round quantity, but the 139 gr Lapua Scenar's have become my preferred bullet for my 6.5 Creedmoor. They may not be the best bullet for 1000+ yards, but I'll never shoot that far. I've also seen enough that I'd use them to hunt with.

Another guy that I met at the range highly recommended these as a good, but less expensive option. I've been impressed so far. They may be available cheaper somewhere else but I've not looked hard.

I use the same powder charge and both bullets shoot to the same point of impact at 100 yards. Accuracy is the same for me. The Barnes bullets actually have a little better BC and will probably be slightly different at really long ranges.

Neither is marketed as a hunting bullet, but I've seen too many dead animals taken with the Scenar's to doubt they work. The Barnes bullets may do as well but are unproven. For now I shoot the Barnes bullets at the range and will save the more expensive Scenar bullets for hunting.

I've not tried them yet, it is a new bullet, but will order a box of these next time I need something from Midway.

The Match Burners are available in lighter weights for the guys running 6.5 Grendel or that just want a lighter bullet.

Yes, you are correct thay 500 or 1000 os not bulk, however, I often see "bulk packs" of 500 or 1000 offered, and it seems to be less expensive to buy a bulk pack of 500 versus buying 5 of the 100 count boxes.

I would guess real bulk numbers would be in the 10's or even 100's of thousand, however, I dont have a use for that many.

To help clarify my question, I am looking for inexpensive bullets so I can plink with my. AR10 in .260 rem.

I will stick with Hornady ELDs for hunting.

You're 1-2 generations ahead in the caliber wars to get any good deals. I've been buying 75gr .224 and .308 heavy BTHPs at 50% off for the last several years as the Bleeding Edge has moved to 6.5mm. In ten years when the Edge moves to something else, I'll have a 6.5mm.

If you want to play at the Edge, bring money!

@newfalguy101 - most manufacturers will offer 2,000-2,500 ct orders at the bottom end. Many offer 500-2,500 as standard retail packaging. The sky is the limit once you find a bullet you like. For a few years, a couple other shooters and I split pallet drops of 77 SMK’s at 14,000 ct each year, drawing retailer “wholesale” pricing.

For cheap bullets for plinking in a 260 LFAR, you should be able to get conventional cup and core HPBT’s around 30¢ / bullet from Hornady, Sierra, and Nosler. A few other exceptions near that price point are the Tipped ELD’s and the Match Burners.

If you’re truly shooting these much, it might be worthwhile to get with an instructor who can order bulk at a discount. I shoot a lot of Hornady bullets because 1) they shoot well enough, but also 2) because I can order at discounted prices which could justify some concessions in raw performance. I prefer to order a single lot of enough bullets to burn out my barrel every time I change.
