This is a Pachmayr Dominator.
It is an old school specialty pistol from the 80s.
It was customized by Chris Rhodes of Bayside Custom Gunworks. He has just recently moved to Newcastle, Wyoming.
When I got my Dominator, he fell in love with the concept and had to have one for himself....He now has a 357 Bain & Davis Dominator.
Mine has a 15" barrel, 1-8 Twist.
I will be starting load development with Hybrid 100V and 140 A-Max's.

Nice set-up! I seem to recall Springfield Armory offering something very similar to this years ago. I think it was called the S.A.S.S. and looked and operated much the same way the Pachmayr Dominator did.

I can't really tell. Is that a single shot 1911 upper?
Very intriguing. I like the idea of the 357 Bain & Davis.
Pachmayr marketed these conversion kits back in the `80's and `90's when single shot specialty pistols were really taking off. I think folks quickly found the limitations of the 1911 grip frame in handling the recoil of .308-class cartridges.

Good memory!

Yeah, that dosent sound like much fun. I know 30-30 class cartridges are kind of the sweet spot in contender/encore pistols and they've got a better suited grip. I dunno if I like the idea of a 308 in one and I loved my 4" 500mag.

357 Bain and Davis sounds just about right to me though!

The SASS was a tilt action, but it was on a 1911 frame.

Very nice Dominator. Thanks for posting it.

I really wanted an SASS at one point. I was worried about the effects of .308 on the 1911 frame as has been mentioned. Not so worried about effects on me. I had done a bit of shooting with a Merrill in .30-30 and another in .44 Magnum. I liked these better than Contenders and the grip was much like a 1911.

When I tested the Springfield Omega for my publisher I called Springfield and ask about a SASS made for that 10mm frame. They said no. I was sad. The idea of a .45ACP/.38Super/10mm that could be turned into a .30-30 and .223 single shot appealed to me. Of course Bob Day was still alive and his machinist stil working at the time and I was sure a 30X type .22 conversion was possible...... I mean if you are going to dream, dream big!
