My understanding is that the 6.5 Creedmore is shortened so it can better handle the long, VLD bullets. In my opinion, it makes much more (relative) sense than the .45 G.A.P.

Awesome. I taked to Ray once at Jensen about long-range shooting, rifles, cans, and the like; I didn't know you two were in cahoots.

I'm bookmarking this. I have a lot to learn on technique and lots of (cheaper) practice before any of this gear could do me any good. :) Good write-up. I noticed your piece in the Book of the AR-15 as well. Also enjoyable.

I think the whole spiel about shorter cases being better for long VLD bullets - when the max loaded OAL is the same - is baloney. In this case, 140-gr-class bullets will have bearing surface well below the bottom of the neck (ie, not above which can help avoid "donut" problems in some circumstances).

The 6.5 Creedmoor and the 260 are virtually indistinguishable looking at ballistics, and I expect, accuracy (based on my 260 results anyway). 260 has a lot more brass choices.

MDeViney,

Ray and I have been shooting partners at some team matches, and we both owners of TBAC.

Hi Zak,

I was going to have my riflesmith build me a 260 Rem, but he planted the idea of going 6.5x47. I've read your articles on the web and posts here on THR.

Do you have the COL for the loads you posted here(in the table):

http://www.6mmbr.com/Gunweek084.html

I emailed Alliant and Hodgdon if they had load data and, if not, if they were working on any data. Both said they didn't have data and did not say whether they were working on it.

Thanks!

Nice rig. Interesting munition.
I'm still throwing big old soft ball slugs.

I use RL-22 in my 6.6X55 Sewde with good results.

I got to get behind but not shoot an AW at Bisley in '01. It was an impressive rifle.

I would like to find a Savage 110FP in 6.5X55

Cheers
...MJ...
