I decided to put this in Rifle's since it gets more views. Mods feel free to move it to hunting if you prefer it there.

I'm about to order a 6.8 upper from Ko-Tonics. This is mainly going to be a hunting rig.

It will basically be this upper with a few small changes:

My biggest question is if I should go with a fixxed FSB or a low-profile? I do not care for the railed gas blocks and will eventually put a DD Omega rail on it. Thoughts/suggestions? It will evenually have an ACOG as well.

For social uses, even with optics, I always run a fixed/pinned FSB. For a hunting AR15, I use a lo-profile gas block.

I am cheap, and the M1S non-railed handguard is my current fave. I have to drill/tap it for a front sling swivel, but at $40 it's a steal for an all-metal float tube. I generally run a rifle-length tube over a middie gas system. I just prefer the look and extra handgrip area that it provides.

I'm looking at doing exactly the same thing pretty soon. I'll probably go with a JP free float tube with the option of adding rails where needed, like for a front BUIS.

Post some pictures when you get it finished.

FWIW - I have both the JP and the YHM 'naked' tubes to which you can add rails. The YHM is better finished and feels subjectively lighter. Now that the YHM has anti-rotation pins, I put it on par with the JP for functionality. It's also a bit less coin.
