60-65 gr Match Quality 223 Bullet?

Hey all,

Can anyone recommend a Match Quality 60 - 65 gr bullet in .223? I'm shooting a Savage 12FV (1:9 twist) and have been having some success with 69 gr Sierra MK, the best bullet I've found so far. I may try Hornady's 68 and Nosler's 69 as well, but would also like to experiment with something a little lighter - 60-65 gr may be the "sweet spot" for a 1:9 twist barrel.

But Hornday, Nosler, and Sierra don't seem to make a match quality bullet in this weight range. Any other ideas?

I'm reloading with new Winchester brass and Winchester primers, Hogdon's H335.

I've had good results shooting Sierra 1375s - 60 gr Varmiters from my AR service rifle. I found them to be very accurate. I load them in Winchester or Lake City cases with CCI primers and 25gr H4895 for my 100 yard match loads. They'll shoot 1.25" rested with iron sights. They'd surely do better with a better set of eyes behind the sights.

Try a box of Hornady 60 grain V-Max just for grins.
Not match bullets, but as accurate or more so then any match HP bullets I have ever shot in a .223 & a 22-250.

Ditto on the V-Max line of bullets. They shoot great. My .222 Mag loves the 55 & 60 Gr V-Max's as well as Hornady's plain jane 50 & 55 Gr soft points.

Hornady makes a 53 grain Flat Base Match Bullet. I have buds who are ultra competitive, so they load separate ammunition for 100 yard high power matches. And they use this bullet with H4895.

They claim that this bullet is more accurate at 100 yards.

All I can tell you is that these guys will shoot 20 round sub MOA groups, prone with iron sights, in AR15's. The groups are good.

I have a few hundred of those 53gt Hornady match bullets but I haven't found a good load for them in my 1:8 service rifle. I loaded them up to 25 gr H4895 and still got keyholes at 100. How much higher could I go with those?
