Yesterday I received a 60 Army shoulder stock that I recently purchased new. The Manufacturer was unknown to me a time of purchase. My understanding from various posts on the net is that these stocks cannot be mixed an matched between the manufacturers of Uberti and Pietta.
Here is the stock that I picked up (It is an EMF Stock made by Pietta according to the box):

I happen to own a Uberti 1860 Army (date code CL) and a Pietta 1860/51 hybrid fantasy (date code AT), so I figured that I could not lose - the stock should fit one or the other. Much to my surprise the stock fits both!

The Uberti

The Pietta

I believe...Lee Van Cleefs rig was a remmie For a few dollars more (been awhile...edit...ok it looks like a colt saa really...whatever it is it has a backstrap)...dont think anybody makes one of those BUT....Cabelas has the Colt 51 stock....which everybody knows the Colts are MUCH better than the Remington....:neener:

Well, that is a better price than the DGW price of $295.

I want one but it is on the lowest tier of my list.

Looks great!

Again, since it fits a Uberti and a Pietta (with the "tail") I see no big difference in the fit. My contention all along is that the Pietta has a bit of a tail but has more of a curve to the trigger guard. If one peruses a DGW catalog, when comparing Uberti and Pietta, between various year models, the Pietta difference disappears. I also think that when Val Forgett brought an 1851 "parts" gun to Italy in the 1950's to replicate a shooter, much discussion was made insofar as having the replica have many different lines so the replicas could not be faked on the original 1800's pistol market.

I also think that when it comes to 1860's, Piettas have less of a tail issue than with the 51's

My personal experience is that the shoulder stocks are not interchangeable between brands. I had a Pietta 1860, and I bought a shoulder stock on ebay that turned out to be made by Uberti. It did not fit. (The curve of the backstrap was slightly different.) I sold the Pietta, and bought an Uberti 1860. The shoulder stock fit fine.

The date of manufacture of the items might make a difference, since I believe all the Italian companies have been steadily improving their faithfulness to the originals as time goes by. I would be hesitant to buy a stock (of a different brand) without trying it on the gun first.

All I know is I got lucky, perhaps it is because I bought the stock new - who knows?
