Picked up a new hunting rifle in 7-08 (Weatherby Vanguard youth). Never loaded 7-08 before and looking for the SAAMI drawing to do some experimenting with cases. When I go to SAAMI.org the words that look like they may be a link to the cartridge drawings are not clickable. Is anyone else able to access the drawing or have a way for me to get it? Thanks for any help.
Thinking 139 grain bullets with Varget or H4350 for white tail. That's what I have and/or is available.
Hope that checks with any 7-08 gurus.

The SAAMI drawing won’t help you with reloading the 7-08, but here it is anyway:

I’ve found 42.0grn Varget under a 140 Nosler Accubond to be exceptionally good shooting out of 10 or more 7-08 rifles and barrels I have owned or for which I have manufactured ammunition in the last 20yrs. And if you can’t kill deer with that combination, there’s no cartridge on the planet which can save you.

Look up the “bolt close method” for setting your sizing die for your rifle, and the “bolt lift method” for setting your bullet seating die, and you’ll be far, far better served than trying to apply the generic dimensions of the SAAMI standard to your individual rifle and bullet choice.

You rock Varminterror. Thanks.
Will try the bolt methods. Like to measure stuff too.
I'll try that load on some Interlocks until I can find something better for sale.

H4350 is almost as good as it gets in the 7mm08.
For some reason, people associate the 7mm08 with medium burn rate powders like the .308, but they are two very different animals!

I get 100-150fps more velocity from my 7mm08 with H4350 and it’s near analog RL17. Actually RL17 is slightly superior to H4350, but is currently “unobtanium”.

Varget may well give good acc, but RL17/H4350 will beat it by as much as 150fps.
I get 3,000fps with the Hornady 139gr BT-Interlok from my 20”bbl RemM-7. I only get 3,250fps from my 26” REM M700 7mmMag....with 3lbs difference in weight, you know which goes hunting!

The 139 Hornady has been a great bullet for me. I’ve killed over 30deer with it from my 7mm08.
It just works.

Don’t over think your loads. Size brass down enough that the cases easily feed and eject. I seat my bullets to 2.825” OAL as that’s the longest that will fit and feed from the magazine. The case mouth is just shy of the edge of the cannelure. Cases should be trimmed before loading if new, or once fired.
My REM Mod-7 is my favorite hunting rifle.
Who’d have thought that they would be some day made just 7miles up the road from my house!
(LaGrange, Ga). (The way crow flys! Can’t get there, from my house. Gotta go a third of the way around the county to get there...).

My rem model 7 in 7mm-08 loves 140 gr sierra game king spbt over 43gr IMR4350.....and this is my favorite deer rifle without question, lights out for whitetail!

All I shoot now is 7-08 for hunting purposes. I don't worry about velocity. Consistent moa or sub moa groups is what I strive for. 41.5 Varget with140 gr Nosler Hunting BTs or 140 gr SGKs gets me where I want to be all day. I have one rifle that likes em slower at 39.5 gr. Seems the 120 and 140 gr 7mm SGKs and BTs are hard to come by these days. Glad I stocked up cause I like to shoot my hunting rigs pretty regular. ymmv

Sierra seems to be MIA for some reason, most other manufacturers have overcome all the supply and labor issues at this point, but they seem to have given up almost? Luckily I have enough on hand to get me through for quite some time. Sure is disappointing for me as sierra was almost exclusively what I loaded for everything I own since I started loading 23 years ago.....

Sierra was bought out by some consortium and apparently no longer caters to the hunting crowd. Many of their long term favorite bullets have been discontinued.
They have replaced them with a myriad of plastic tipped Uber high ballistic coefficient target bullets.
Prices have followed. They are only slightly less expensive than the Nosler Partitions.

I’ve written off Sierra as a source of hunting bullets. For a long time they were a favorite offering superlative accuracy and reliable expansion and penetration at a decent price.

Speer still offers the original HotCore bullets and has become my source for most rifle bullets.

I started loading some Hornady interlock in the absence of game kings... They seem to shoot OK... seems we have hijacked this thread that started off as the OP looking for a SAAMI drawing o_O :)
