They're good, fun guns. I, myself own a MAS 49, but I've been looking for a MAS 36. Both shoot the same 7.5x54 French.
Prvi now loads for it, have been for a year or so. I bought 2 boxes when I bought the gun (within the last year). I don't remember the price, it was all part of an out-the door price. AIM Surplus usually stocks it, for around $12 a box, give or take a little. At the Atl. Gun Show today I saw some loaded by PCI, their Jap ammo is pretty decent, and a lot cheaper than Hornady or Norma. The dealer wanted too much for it though, $23 a box IIRC, so I let it pass. And lastly, Hornady's metric line of ammo probably has a load for it, but don't qoute me on that.
Anyway ammo is out there, but it's hard to find in stock at a store. Many stores will get several boxes in if they get a rifle for it. Other than that, few will stock it. And it's always cheaper at AIM.
BTW, what was the gun listed at? Most I've seen, in very good condition were in the ballpark of $350.

ETA-Never mind on the price, I just pulled up the pics and saw it. Better than average price, and a good looking gun. It probably would've followed me home if I'd have seen it.

the mas-36 is a good mil-surplus rifle. uglier than sin, and a good shooter. The biggest down side is ammo avaliability. as far as i know the only company that makes factory ammo is Prvi Partizan. Surplus ammo is rare but can be found occasionally. If the rifle is under $200 i would say go for it, much more than that and i would pass. be ware of the century conversions to .308 or so i have always been told. Ammo to go has 7.5x54 (7.5 french) not to be confused woth 7.5x55 (7.5 Swiss.) not cheap but it is reloadable. hope this helps.

I saw a guy selling 2 of them in excellent refurb condition on gunboker a few months ago,the normal type for $150 and the grenade version for $175 buy now,I bought both instantly since that price is low compared to what they normally sell for now.
PP is good ammo,test results so far with the MAS is typically milsurp accuracy.The real downside is no windage adjustment,mine shoot off of center and from what I heard the only way to adjust windage is replacement rear sights which are hard to find,I see no way of even tapping the front sight.Really is frustrating.

Looking at the photo of it in the gunshop those Enfields and Mausers in the rack I would go for before a MAS,unless you can find a good deal like I did.Function on the MAS is excellent,feels like log though and the grenade version is front heavy though.But if I ever buy another one I will want proof that it shoots dead center at 100yds before I buy it.Mine I have will rarely get shot,I have them just because of my want to have a example of them in my milsurp collection.

I sold the one I had, it shot 5 inches to the left at 100yds. and its a bitch to adjust windage on them

I've got 4 MAS 36's. They were not in as nice condition as the
ones pictured,but they were reaql cheap.
Think they were $36 each plus shipping.
Ordered 4 thinking I would be able to put 2 shooters together.
Well got 4 good shooters out of the deal.

I just bought a 36/51 (fitted with grenade launcher) for $236 with S&H off GunBroker. I'm looking forward to giving it a whirl, though the windage issues are a bit of a concern.
