Found some interesting surplus ammo. The box was marked merely 7.5mm cartridge in the standard european style of german,french, then english language. The headstamp was just a few different numbers, and the overall length was the same as the 7.62x39. Odd thing, the bullets were all metal, nice shiny steel.

Mitchells Mausers ammo, the ammunition looked like surplus bullets loaded into what looked to be the original cartridge case with the word mitchells added to the headstamp and the case was annealed at the shoulders. Am i off?
Odd because all the other commercial ammo and bulk 8mm mauser in there had no annealing whatsoever.

until you said the OAL was the same as 7.62x39 i was thinking maybe GP11 but there is no english on the GP11 box german french and italian... but no english

pics might help

also it's likely not "shiny steel" as you suggest... that would be bad for the bore... probably a cupronickel jacket which has a shiny silvery look

see the GP11 (between the 303 and the 7.62x45r) and the Turkish 8x57 (on the other side of the 7.62x54r) in this pic

That is weird.

Could it be some sort of experimental intermediate round?

There are 3 7.5s that I can think or right off:
7.5 Swiss, with a 55mm case length;
7.5 French, with a 54mm case length; and
7.5 Czech Experimental, with a 45mm case length. The last was the forerunner of the better-known 7.62x45 Czech SHE.
None of the three should be the same length as the 7.62x39. Can you post a pic or description of the headstamp markings?

the color of the bullet is a bit shinier then the 4 from the right, last one on right starts as 1.

Still it was wierd tho, i was tempted to get a box just to have. 6.99 for ten rounds is kinda pricey for surplus ammo, even if its new manufacture.
It was at Dunhams, so that might say a bit on the price.
They finally put magazines and bolts back into their surplus rifles finally. But everything has those crappy trigger locks.
