I've been trying to clean up my loose brass in my reloading room and i came across a bag full of 7.62 headstamped brass. I used a micrometor and they all seem identical to a 308 Win. The problem came when I tried to resize them and remove the primer. I was using a Lee 308 die set. I used the RCBS case lube and when I up them into the die it gets about half way in and stops. I put more pressure and it just smashed the neck in. I took the die apart and still Im not sure what the problem would be. I might just be stupid but I cant think of why a 308 die wouldnt work. Just wondering if anyone else has had issues with the same thing. Any feed back would be nice. And if Im just being stupid take it easy on me.

I use a 7.62 die on 7.62 brass---I think it will work better than a 308 die.
Why don't you try it...........................
Is that X 39 or by 54 ?

It sounds like you are trying to shove the larger 7.62 X 54 case into the smaller 308 die----don't work--does it..............

None of my 7.62 X 54 says 7.62
Must be 308 Military brass--------------have fun

Take measurement of your brass and check drawings here >http://www.stevespages.com/page8d.htm Edit: Try sizing without the decaper/expander button installed in the die, see if that makes a difference. Make sure the decapper is not sliding up into the die neck area on sizing. Use more lube inside the neck.
