Ok fellas, I'm ordering some 7.62x39 in bulk this week, and I can't decide which way to go. Both are fine, but each is plagued with some sort of negative.
1) 1,120 rounds of brass-cased 1980's Yugo FMJ on stripper clips, with CORROSIVE primer (you may have seen my thread about cleaning corrosive ammo).
2) 1,000 rounds of Wolf steel-cased FMJ, NON-corrosive, but no indoor ranges allow it. I go to outdoor ranges mostly, but I like options.

Both are the exact same price. I just can't decide. So if you were me, what would you do? (poll results won't necessarily determine my actual purchase... just interested).

wolf is non-corrosive.
Maybe spend more and get fiocchi brass-cased, copper jacketed lead?
your range owner will love them and so will your gun.
You can reload them as well

I'll take the corrosive stuff if it's cheaper and clean my gun. People get all wrapped around the axle over using corrosive ammo in guns designed to shoot corrosive ammo when it is not that big of a deal.

Well I don't go to indoor ranges very often, so its not too big a deal, but the fact remains. And I am not going to reload since I just dont have a place to. So surplus/cheap is the most desirable.

I'd generally go for the least expensive option, but for only a 120 round "premium" I'd go for the non corrosive Wolf just so I don't have to worry about cleaning my gun when I get home.

I shoot lots of corrosive ammo whenever it is about half the price of non-corrosive, but I skip it for outings I'm not 100% sure I'll have time to clean up when I get home.

They say the "bi metal" jacket will cause sparks, but I know it's just that they don't want to have to separate the brass at the end of the day.

Right now, I'm looking at just getting Wolf for anything BUT the couple ranges that don't like it, and getting something like that Georgia Arms stuff for those ranges.

Not haveing a place too shoot makes range ammo kinda pointless. Get the corrosive stuff and have a place to shoot.

Local ranges here claim it is soooo dirty that it causes fires from all the unburnt powder. Too lazy to seperate cases with a magnet.

The Yugo is corrosive but hot loaded. I like the stuff, shoots tight grps in my AKs and SKSs. Make sure you use hot water to wash off and follow with regular bore solvents.

No, I do have places besides the indoor ranges... the indoor ranges are just the most convenient, which is why I said I would have the small amount for those ranges. I don't shoot the AK there much, so it's just for messing around. I've got plenty of other places to shoot the Wolf, which is why it seems like the most reasonable option

And on that note, I bought the Wolf.

Why are you just limiting yourself to those two? I would get some Golden Tiger myself. That is what I find to shoot the best in my AK.

I have been using Wolf ammo for years and have never had an issue. Most of the gun ranges here in Texas (The one's I have been to.) all sell Wolf ammo for their range use.

Good choice. That's what I buy too but I still have lots of the corrosive stuff left over from the 90's. I'm glad you have some good places to shoot besides those ranges. It sorta makes me feel confined like the world is closing in on me just to hear that someone else might be limited to range shooting. :) I like to think the world is still big enough for steel case ammo.

I know man, as soon as I'm done with college I'm moving out to somewhere with lots of land. Anything at least an hour from a major city. lol

If you are shooting an SKS, get the Wolf. If it's an AK get the Yugo. The AK gas system is easier to clean with corrosive ammo.

That brass yugo is swell ammo. It's been going up in price. I like the wolf types, too, but I'd rather shoot the old corrosive stuff. The brass is easy on the gun and, as we all know, timely treatment will prevent any primer problems.

My local range loves 'em because he sells 'em at $13/20.

I just got 300 rounds of milsurp brass case, no steel, berdan primed stuff for about $3 somethin'/15 delivered. I almost can't reload 'em for that price.

When sportsman's guide had that yugo, and I of course did not buy from them, they advertised it as "mildly corrosive." Huh? When Aim had it cheap, about 3.50 for thirty rounds, I bought a whole bunch. I like it more than golden tiger and the old hotshot. Does anyone want the formula for homemade windex again?
