Walked into a local pawn and found a pretty clean 788, no bolt repair. Wood has been refinished but the stocks never were pretty on these.

.308 in the rifle length 22", correct mag....hmmmm......$250 OTD....try not to drop wallet while doing best Master Card quick-draw.

Cleaned it up, there are a couple touches of cold-blue...minor. Bore cleaned up way better than expected...minty! Drug around a lot and shot a little I'm guessing.

..mmm.... 788 porn. much nice and much under-rated as were the old 600 and 688 stuff. Very good for excellent hunting/target shooting variabilities, especially with handloading. I am still drooling for a 600 mohawk in 6mm remmy, with the vent rib all the way down the top. i know a dealer who has one, but he refuses to drop the price. From what I understand, remmy actually got rid of these, that is the old 600 and 700 series stuff, to put out the new at the time 700 rifles. Because a lot of folks kept buying the old stuff, because they were more accurate, but more expensive to make.

nice 788.. and fantastic price.

I have one in 22-250. my last outing it shot under 1/2 moa w/ cheap WWB... these guns are very very under rated

You don't want to blink when you find one. I lost a 223 at a gun show when I walked back to our table to check on something, I went back and it was sold. $250 and cherry. I did manage to pick up a 22-250 and vintage 3x9 weaver for $250. last year. Thats the last one I've seen.
