870 Barrel Questions

I wanted a shotgun for both bird hunting and home defense. So I bought a 870 Synthetic with 26" barrel to start with. First, can I fire slugs from this factory barrel? Second, does anyone sell a 18" barrel that takes changable chokes?

First ? : yes
Second ? : Not that I know of

Yes, slugs can be safely fired from that barrel. An open choke is probably a good idea accuracy wise, though exceptions exist.

Second, the 21" barrels used on the Turkey 870s take tubes, and work well for HD. The extra 3" is not oft noticeable in the real world.
