I've got a 870 myself

I've got an ole 870 express myself. One great shotgun. A Wingmaster might look a bit better, but mine performs just fine for me. I didn't get it for looks, I got it for performance.

I'd like to tack a question on here if I could :)

I have the same shotgun (870 express 18") and I was wondering if I can run slugs through it? I read (here I think) that depending on the choke you cannot shoot slugs safely.

You can shoot slugs through any choke.

However, they will ruin your tubes. I've seen tubes split from shooting slugs. Improved cylinder is generally regarded as best. Cylinder should work. Don't use Full unless it's a monster buck, or you need to stop an attacker.

yea the guy at kittery trading post said slugs through a full choke is a no-no. What other kinds of loads are best shot through which chokes?

881, that's a big question.A bit of research in the archives will gvie you some answers.

Slugs usually work best through open chokes.

Non toxics like steel, bismuth and the alloys of tungsten, etc, have their own rules. Mostly, extremely open ot tight chokes do not do well.

Large lead pellets like the buck loads tend to respond to a little bit of choke. Modified is close to max tightest for most loads.

There are exceptions to all the above. These are loose rules.

HTH....
