I just got a new Remington 870 a few days ago, and i'm either misunderstanding something, or I have a problem. This is the gun I have..

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/95077

It lists the capacity as 7+1, but i'm only able to fit six into the magazine before it won't let me load another shell. Is something getting stuck in the mag, or was the gun mislabeled, and it means 7 total, as in six in the mag, one in the chamber? This is my first pump shotgun. Thanks!

They mis-labeled the capacity in the specs, which is not unusual.

The 18" Remington 870 with an extension holds SIX in the magazine and ONE in the chamber for a total of 7.

The one in the picture looks like a 20 " with a plus 3 extension...but then it says 18" in the description and 7 + 1

....if yours is an 18" it will have a plus 2 extension.

4 + 2 and one in the chamber = 6+1

Another quick question... I'm wanting to put a sling on it for when I take a shotgun training class i've got lined up, and the shotgun has no swivels. I know i'll need to use the screw in type on the stock, but I was wondering if there was a part I could get for the front swivel. The 870 with shot extension on Remington's website shows a sling swivel on the barrel clamp that's attached to the front of the gun, but the one I have doesn't have a swivel there. There's a hole in the metal and an indentation like a swivel could go there, but no swivel. Is there a part I need to order to go there?

Also, if I decide to take this duck hunting or something, I know I need to plug it. Can it be plugged, having come with the max extension? Sorry for all the questions, i'm a real shotgun newbie.

You need to get a set of swivel posts (there are sets made for the 870) and a retaining clip (optional) for the front swivel post. When you drill the pilot for the rear swivel don't drill it too large as the synthetic stock isn't solid or as solid as a wooden stock.
