I have a rem 870 with magazine extension and need sling advice...
who has a sling on your 870 that you like and how is mounted?...magazine extension and butt stock with no attachment points only please...i don't feel like a drill and tap project today

You could try the H&K style slings. Get sling mounts that sit between the stock and receiver and between the magazine tube and extension. The sling will sit on one side of the gun.

Take a look at the Mp5 SMG, G3 Rifle, and Mauser K98k to see this kind of style.

I feel rant coming on; if you are going to use a SG for HD, lose the damn sling!
A sling is useful for 2 purposes:
1. To carry the weapon over a long distance
2. To maintain the weapon at a ready position on a fixed post/location, like a roadblock or something similiar.
If you use a sling for HD it will:
Catch on something just when you do not want it to,
it will provide a handy grab handle for someone trying to disarm you,
it will catch on you when and where you do not want it to.
If you are dreaming (and I do mean dreaming) about a scenario where your SG goes winchester (empty) or otherwise inop, and you drop your long gun to sling position and you whip out your super sumphelator 20 mil magnum, handgun and drop the BG. Well, you need a reality sandwich, now.
That secnario is taught to real pros, and they screw it up for the first 40 times or so, maybe more.
If your SG goes inop for whatever reason, either use it as a blunt instrument(I am NOT kidding), remember the vertical and horizontal butt stroke from bayonet training? Well those strokes can kill, and a SG is a close range weapon anyway, no? OR, lose the damn deadweight, get it out of your way-throwing it at the BG is not unreasonable-then deploy your handgun if you have one.
You can strangle yourself with the sling, or just restrain yourself while the BG either laughs at you, or kills you-your call.
Slings do not belong on HD weapons, they are for use by personnel who have been trained to use them for their intended purpose. There are a lot of folks making money on esoteric sling configurations these days, just like all the other stuff they sel you to hang on your gun. Except for a light and a butt cuff with 5-6 extra rounds, my guns, and the ones I allow in my classes are straight stock-except for sights. Works better-I promise.
OK, EOR, (end of rant)

I like to use a sling at the sporting clays range. Using African carry with a sling is acceptable at my range. The acceptable way to carry a pump without a sling is to have the action open and muzzle pointed toward the sky.

Drilling and mounting a stud into the stock is not difficult if you ever want to go that route. On the second one, notice the stud on the magazine cap. This sling method is extremely secure. I don't like having to carry the gun a certain way just to prevent the sling from falling off the gun. If you get a sling that doesn't use studs, see if you can manhandle the sling in all different directions without it coming off.
