I just bought a tac star side saddle for my 870, put it on and quickly realized that the shot gun wont cycle. because the stock foregrip of the 870 slides over the receiver where the side saddle mounts.

What are my options here? I kind of like the original foregrip. should i just cut it?
Who makes a replacement foregrip?

You have three choices.

The simplest would be to return (or sell) your six-round sidesaddle, and buy a four-round one. These are designed to work with the field-style forend; I have one on my 870.

You can notch your forend with a dremel, file or whatever and cut off enough material on that side to clear the sidesaddle.

Or you can ditch the field-style forend and buy a corncob/police style forend (like on Mossbergs) that doesn't protrude onto the receiver when cycled.

I have short arms and I need every bit of forend I can get, so the field-style is staying on my 870. Thus, I just went with a four-round sidesaddle, which is enough to recharge my 4-round magazine tube anyway. YMMV.

I think it wont be a problem if you get the forgrip off of a 870 police. They are shorter.

Those who indicated the options of either swapping forearms or swapping the 6-round Sidesaddle for the 4-round version are correct. We use the 4-round versions on our 'house guns' because my wife likes the field-length forearms on 870s- they let her run the gun without having to overextend her support arm.

Is your furniture wood or synthetic?

Fore ends are cheap enough. I cut a notch out of mine to go around the side saddle. If I ever need to return it back to original condition I can buy a replacement.

My Marine Magnum came with the field-length forearm and I ditched it for the Police-style.
The reason why is that with the action open, you still have access to the magazine if you feel the need to feed in some more rounds - this is really tough to do with the field-length forearm.

I have the synthetic furniture on mine. I decided to just brake out the dremel, I was bored and needed a project anyway. Used a cut off disc and a sanding drum. It almost looks like a factory cut now.
