My fathers a Vietnam vet and is a huge shooter and fan of the 9.3 x 62 cartridge as he shoots it the most. I would like to buy him a box of the best ammo available for it but don't know where to look. I checked out Hornady but on their top offering for this ammo it says restricted from USA for some reason? Can anybody explain that one?

Looking for recommendation on a box of premium 9.3 x 62, best option out in USA? Best place to buy online?

Thank you.

Midway list Hornady on their 9.3X62 page.

The PPU shot very well in my CZ550.

The only place I found any on the shelves was Cabela's. They had the S&B at the time which also shot very well in the CZ (it was the ammo the factory used to test fire it according to the enclosed target).

Thanks, any input as to why that particular Hornady round is restricted FROM America?? I found that shocking when I read it..

May be loaded to CIP instead of SAAMI standards. Other than that I have no idea.

Where are you reading that it is restricted in the US? I'm not seeing that.

Never mind, I found it. I have no idea

I'm pretty sure the Hornady cases area slightly different from CIP standard case. I think they are probably 30-06 based, which is not exactly the same dimensions as 9.3. My 9.3 ate up loads using PPU CIP spec brass with no problem, but FTF'd (I believe due to some brass caused headspace mismatch) with the Hornady several times. Same load, dies, etc. The Hornady might have done better on the second firing, but I had so much PPU brass that ran flawlessly, I wound up tossing the Hornady.

I'd recommend trying to find out what he shoots out of his 9.3 at present and by him more of that. Getting him a box of ammo his rifle isn't sighted in for just means he'll probably spend half the box at the range just sighting it in.

Yeah that's a good point on asking him. The Federal i'm skeptical on. Is it really worth more then the Hornady, Lapua, or Norma??

I'm so stuck on this one.. I know he likes to reload. Is the Federal reloadable?

I took your guys advice and just asked him. He said he prefers Hornady then saves the brass and loads to spec. He said Federals over rated and not worth the extra dollars.

Thanks for the knowledgeable feedback.
