Title says it all. I was at my 2nd cowboy shoot w/ my 97 winchester when it decided to lock up. I got it home and have taken it apart, put it back together. Can't find anything broken but when fully assembled, the forearm will just not move.

As a side note, a nice fellow in my posse helped me look at it and we found that the action bar kept disengaging from the "hooky thing" that hangs down from the bolt. (Excuse my terminology and ignorance.)

Please help.

thanks

Is this an original 97, or an import? If original, look at the hook on the action bar and see if it's worn or not. I'll forward this thread to a friend who is an expert on the 97 and see if he has any ideas.

Hope this helps.

texas chase,

My friend says you need to take your 97 to a good gunsmith and have him/her look it over. He can't diagnose it without seeing it.

Hope this helps.

Would a moderator move this to the competition shooting section please? I'm hoping some of the CAS fellows might be able to help me.

Thanks

How far are you from Oklahoma? Brisco Kid at Ft Towson is one of the best on the '97's. I suspect he'll be setup at Badlands Bar 3 for Comin' At Cha in November.

Most AGI videos I have are not as good, but the 1897 Win video is great.
I got 1.5 shotguns worth of parts for very cheap and built a good 97 win from the parts.
There are ~ 100 parts to an 1897, the most of any gun I have taken apart.
Even today, I can't take the gun apart and put it together without watching the video at the same time.
My uncle bought a quanity of 1897 shotguns for the Seattle dock strike in the 1930s.
I grew up hunting with one.
I prefer to hunt with a 1905 these days.
