I'm thinking of a custom project (working with a cousin of mine, he's a newly-minted gunsmith). It would be along these lines:
A combination-sized 1911 - officer's frame, commander slide. Like the Kimber Compact Stainless (I think that's the name) but in 9mm. Should yield a minimum 7-round magazine. Fixed sights, beavertail, extended safety, etc - basic custom touches, nothing especially fancy.
Does this strike anyone as a dumb idea? Or does some manufacturer already build this gun, and I haven't found it yet? I've seen plenty of full-sized, officer-sized, and commander-sized 9mm 1911s, but never the hybrid officer/commander setup. I don't know why but this appeals to me more than either the true commander or officer's size guns.
Opinions appreciated!
